We analysed the psychological repercussions of liver transplant, taking into account several variables: the mental health of relatives, social support received by them and the place of hospitalization of the patients. ... We analysed the psychological repercussions of liver transplant, taking into account several variables: the mental health of relatives, social support received by them and the place of hospitalization of the patients. To do this we selected two subject groups: 48 liver transplant patients and 48 relatives closest to the patients. We applied a Psychosocial Questionnaire and the following tests: «The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale», «The Leeds Scales for the Self-Assessment of Anxiety and Depression», and «Social Support Scale». The results showed that the mental health of the liver transplant patients was found to be most affected when the patient is in ICU and when their relatives exhibit signs of depression, as a result of receiving little social support. |
