De esta manera, reducir tanto los costes ... Nunca antes el diseño sostenible ha sido tan importante como lo es hoy en día. Se estima que casi el 40% de las emisiones globales provienen de la industria de la construcción. De esta manera, reducir tanto los costes económicos como sociales de la construcción así como disminuir los costes de mantenimiento se ha convertido un factor de diseño muy importante. Las ideas sobre la eficiencia energética del edificio propuesto deben aparecer en las primeras fases de diseño. Esto es un factor particularmente importante en edificios públicos, que consumen mucha más energía para calefacción e iluminación sin comparación con los edificios de viviendas y producen mayor cantidad de basura. Esto es importante en grandes edificios como filarmónicas o palacios de la ópera, como Harpa – la sala de conciertos y centro de convenciones de Reikiavik o la Elbphilarmonie de Hamburgo, edificios que fueron proyectados de manera que se disminuyese el impacto medioambiental y creasen un espacio público en el que tanto los residentes como los usuarios del edificio pudieran sentirse cómodos. Este artículo busca demostrar que mediante un hábil uso del conocimiento de diseño sostenible y de la tecnología moderna podemos crear un nuevo icono de arquitectura, como un palacio de la ópera o filarmónica, que siendo pensados tanto para el usuario como para el medioambiente.
