La catedral a la moda. Estudio del papel jugado por los miembros del Cabildo palentino en la barroquización de su catedral durante el siglo XVII

Abstract

El presente trabajo de investigación tiene por objeto analizar el destacado papel que tuvieron algunos miembros del Cabildo catedralicio de Palencia en la introducción del lenguaje Barroco en la iglesia mayor de la ciudad del Carrión. Su patrocinio artístico y apoyo económico modificó la fisionomía de capillas y otros espacios catedralicios a través de la incorporación de retablos, imágenes y pinturas costeadas o donadas por estos personajes. El arco cronológico abarca el período de tiempo comprendido entre los episcopados de Fray José González (1616-1626) y Fray Alonso Lorenzo de Pedraza (1685-1712). Por último, junto con la bibliografía existente, nos serviremos fundamentalmente de la documentación alojada en las Actas Capitulares de la seo palentina y en los Protocolos Notariales de Palencia.

The aim of this research project is to analyse the important role that some members of Palencia’s canonry had on the introduction of the baroque in the cathedral of this city. Their artistic patronage and economic support modified the aesthetics of the chapels and other spaces of the cathedral through the introduction of altarpieces, images and pictures paid or donated for these influential people. The study covers the chronological period between the episcopate of Brother José González (1616-1626) and the one of Brother Alonso Lorenzo de Pedraza (1685-1712). For this research project the existent studies about this topic had been used but also the Chapter Acts kept in the archives of the Cathedral of Palencia and the Notarial Protocols of Palencia.
