Works of art mean a big opportunity of image’s creation for the country in which they were made, especially when the country sends them abroad, hoping to transmit certain ideology with them that results in the country’s identity as a nation. Departing from this idea, the present paper is about the propagandistic exploitation of painting when a power entity takes part in the exhibition value of it. In order to describe it, the text will be focused on the CIA’s exportation of Abstract Expressionism to Europe. With this case, it is shown how a painting without power intentions in its creation becomes a propagandistic art in its reception, holding an ideological message that is hidden behind its aesthetic function |
