El envejecimiento es un proceso natural complejo que aborda un amplio espectro de cambios físicos y fisiológicos, y que puede conllevar la aparición dediferentes enfermedades relacionadas. Ello confiere una gran importancia a la investigación sobre dicho proceso, convirtiéndolo en un tema fundamental en la ciencia.En una sociedad que está experimentando un creciente envejecimientode la población, es de vital importancia dirigirse a los problemas del envejecimiento con nuevas estrategias. En la búsqueda continua de los investigadores por combatir de manera más efectivaeste proceso, se descubre una mioquina-adipoquina denominada irisina. La irisina es una hormona polipeptídica secretada por multitud de órganos en respuesta al ejercicio, actuando principalmente sobre células adiposas subcutáneas transformando así la grasa blanca en grasa parda. La concentración plasmática de irisina se relaciona positivamente con la sensibilidad a la insulina y la pérdida de peso.Así mismo, ejerce una acciónprotectora frente aalgunas enfermedades neurodegenerativas tales como el Alzheimer y la enfermedad de Huntington, o también tiene efectos antitumorales en algunos tipos de cáncer, o produce alargamiento de los telómeros, ...Es por esta razón nos hemosplanteado como objetivo principal actualizar el conocimiento sobre la irisina, evidenciando los efectos que tiene la realización de ejercicio sobre los niveles plasmáticos de esta y su implicación en el proceso de envejecimiento y patologías asociadas a este.Para ello hemos realizado una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos electrónicas internacionales Pubmed y Web Of Science. Además, hemos consultado publicaciones de la Organización Mundial de la Salud.En conclusión, podemos decir que la irisina se presenta como un posible biomarcador para el diagnóstico precoz y tratamiento del envejecimiento. El contar conuna mayor información dará paso anuevas líneas de investigación y permitirá contar con nuevas estrategias terapéuticas no farmacológicas que contribuyan al tratamiento de enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles |
