La influencia de los aspectos culturales en las traducciones de las mil y una noches: estudios comparados.

Abstract

El Kitāb alf layla wa-layla (Libro de las mil y una noches), una de las obras cumbre de la literatura universal, ha sido traducida a la mayoría de las lenguas del mundo. Además de la multitud de fascinantes narraciones que contiene, la misteriosa historia del texto, sus fuentes y traducciones constituye en sí mismo un apasionante relato. En el presente trabajo se ha tratado de desentrañar el misterio que encierran las Mil y una noches, llevando a cabo un profundo estudio textual que arroja luz sobre el oscuro y complejo entramado en el que la obra ha estado envuelto desde sus orígenes hasta nuestros días. Prescindiendo de las múltiples versiones basadas en traducciones en otros idiomas, el trabajo se centra en las ediciones en español realizadas directamente del árabe, pese a que se realiza un recorrido literario-histórico en el que se describen las fuentes que los distintos traductores han venido usando a lo largo de los años y la situación actual respecto a estas tanto en el mundo académico como en el editorial. Tras el trabajo descriptivo previo, se ofrece una propuesta propia de traducción parcial. Esta tesis doctoral es la culminación de un proyecto que se inició el año 2012 con motivo de una estancia de investigación en el Departamento de Lenguas y Civilizaciones de Oriente Medio de la Universidad de Pensilvania (EE. UU.) gracias al apoyo del Dr. Roger M. A. Allen, que tuvo sus primeros frutos en un Trabajo Fin de Máster, que contó con la dirección y la inestimable ayuda de la Dr. Ingrid Bejarano Escanilla, profesora titular del Departamento de Filologías Integradas, Área de Estudios Árabes e Islámicos, también directora de la tesis.

The Kitāb alf layla wa-layla (Book of the Thousand and One Nights), one of the masterpieces of universal literature, has been translated into most of the world's languages. In addition to the multitude of fascinating narratives it contains, the mysterious history of the text, its sources and translations constitute in itself an exciting story. In the present paper I have tried to unravel the mystery of the Thousand and One Nights, carrying out a profound textual study that sheds light on the dark and complex structure in which the work has been involved from its origins to our days. Disregarding the multiple versions based on translations to other languages, the paper focuses on the Spanish translations made directly from Arabic, although a literary-historical study is performed, in which the sources that the different translators have been using over the years are described and the current situation regarding these is outlined, both in the academic as in the editorial world. After the previous descriptive work, a partial translation proposal is offered. This doctoral thesis is the culmination of a project that began in 2012 on the occasion of a stay of research at the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations of the University of Pennsylvania (USA) thanks to the support of Dr. Roger MA Allen, which bore its first fruits in a Master's Degree thesis, which had the direction and invaluable help of Dr. Ingrid Bejarano Escanilla, Professor at the Department of Integrated Philologies, Area of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Seville, and also director of this thesis.
