Abstract | La producción de microburbujas monodispersas hoy en día ha alcanzado un importante desarrollo. Por su
parte, las aplicaciones a nivel científico, industrial y médico que demandan cada vez más la generación
de burbujas ... La producción de microburbujas monodispersas hoy en día ha alcanzado un importante desarrollo. Por su parte, las aplicaciones a nivel científico, industrial y médico que demandan cada vez más la generación de burbujas de tamaños submilimétricos han contribuido a motivar un gran incremento en el conocimiento de este campo de la Mecánica de Fluidos. Tanto es así que se han desarrollado multitud de tecnologías basadas en dispositivos microfluídicos con el fin de conseguir producir burbujas monodisperas con el menor diámetro posible y a las mayores frecuencias de burbujeo posibles. Si bien cada tipo de dispositivo difiere ligeramente de los demás y presenta sus ventajas e inconvenientes frente a estos, bien es cierto que todos tienen en común las micrométricas dimensiones características de su geometría. Este hecho implica que desarrollar y operar un dispositivo para la generación de microburbujas monodisperas no sea una labor sencilla; además, el empleo de dispositivos de esta escala limita mucho las frecuencias máximas de producción de burbujas. Sin embargo, el proceso de formación de una burbuja no va necesariamente ligado al empleo de este tipo de dispositivos microfluídicos. El estado del arte sobre el conocimiento en lo que al proceso de formación se refiere identifica, entre otras variables, al gradiente favorable de presión local en el punto de formación de la burbuja como uno de los actores principales en el proceso, determinando el diámetro y frecuencia de producción. Así, dado que existen multitud de geometrías donde un líquido puede verse sometido a fuertes gradientes favorables de presión, se ha decidido explorar otras soluciones tecnológicas que, empleando los mismos principios físicos que gobiernan la formación de burbujas en los dispositivos microfluídicos, permitan producir estas en geometrías completamente diferentes, con el fin de extender los campos de aplicación de la producción monodispersa de microburbujas y aumentar las frecuencias actuales de producción.
