dc.description.abstract | INTRODUCTION: Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is a set of conditions that affects the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), the masticatory muscles and the tissues surrounding them. Class III malocclusion establishes a forward position of the jaw with respect to the maxillary. It is characterized by mandibular retrognathism, maxillary prognathism, or a combination of both. The aim of this study is to establish the relationship between the treatment of Class II and temporomandibular dysfunction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic review of the literature of the terms studied in different databases is performed: MEDLINE (by PubMed), Scopus and Cochrane. A total of 1061 items are obtained. In applying the criteria of inclusion and exclusion, finally 36 items are included items for review. CONCLUSION: Treatment of class II is not an etiologic factor in the appearance or worsening of the signs and symptoms that occur in the temporomandibular dysfunction. In addition, the therapy can have beneficial effects on mandibular function. | es |
