This article aims at highligting the mechanisms which allow Marivaux’ assertion of laziness to become the pivot of his claim to human uniqueness and, therefore, of personal freedom. This article aims at highligting the mechanisms which allow Marivaux’ assertion of laziness to become the pivot of his claim to human uniqueness and, therefore, of personal freedom. At a time where fiction seems doomed to reactualize the topic of recognition, Marivaux, whom the innovators accused of reactionarism, appeals to his «laziness » to safeguard his characters from recognition, which would have deprived them of their individuality and of their fictional freedom by inserting them into a perfectly defined social group |
