El principal objetivo de este proyecto ha sido la obtención de un estudio preliminar sobre la integración de una energía en desarrollo en plantas convencionales de desalación de agua de mar. En estas circunstancias, la investigación de nuevas tecnologías ha aumentado exponencialmente durante la última década. Así, aparecieron algunos procedimientos interesantes que se espera sean las nuevas tecnologías generadoras de energía en un futuro cercano. Durante el proyecto se realiza un análisis termoeconómico de una de esas nuevas tecnologías aplicadas a la desalación de agua, las células de desalinización microbiana (MDC). Estas células se consideran el mejor acople para auxiliar energéticamente procesos bien establecidos, como la desalación a través de la ósmosis inversa (RO) o electrodiálisis (ED). Estudios recientes consideran a los MDCs como una posibilidad debido a su capacidad de producir energía, la cual, se usaría para sostenerse sin necesidad de aportes externos. En primer lugar, se hace una breve explicación de la metodología seguida, que ilustra cómo se realizó el estudio termoeconómico para la instalación analizada. Además, la exposición de un experimento reciente a escala de laboratorio funciona como un índice para identificar cada paso de la configuración. El análisis termoeconómico incluye un análisis exergético de los diferentes flujos, de los que se compone el sistema. Además, este análisis comprende un estudio económico sobre los componentes de los que se componen las células. A este respecto, este capítulo expresa la variedad de configuraciones que se están investigando hoy en día en este sector. Finalmente, el documento concluye con la posible implantación de estas células como parte de los sistemas existentes y su costo estimado. |
