The analysis of x-ray images captured from paintings allows the characterization of the type of weave used by the painter. This work focuses on the extraction of relevant characteristics that allow the identification of the type of tissue present in works of art. On the other hand, it is of historical importance the identification of pairs of layers that come from cuts of the same roll of canvas, as it usually happens in paintings drawn by the same author. Therefore, characteristics are additionally suggested to allow to differentiate this fact. In the spatial domain, the texture will be related to the characteristics of the fabric, while the frequency domain provides information about the density of threads present in the fabric. A selection of combined characteristics from both domains enables tissue classification. The images included in this Work and the results of them belong to the Museo Nacional del Prado. Its use, reproduction or distribution is prohibited. |
