Turismo rural en Extremadura: un estudio del perfil de su demanda

Abstract

Por sus peculiaridades naturales y su biodiversidad, Extremadura ha ido afirmándose, en

la última década, como un importante destino de turismo rural. Actualmente, los

profundos cambios que está experimentando la demanda turística, cada vez más

exigente y sofisticada, imponen el desarrollo de un nuevo sistema de oferta coherente

con las nuevas expectativas de los turistas modernos. Estos últimos, desean

experimentar el territorio, entrando en contacto con el estilo de vida local. Para poder

desarrollar una oferta con estas características, es necesario conocer exhaustivamente el

segmento de consumidores objetivo a los que se dirige la propuesta turística de

Extremadura. En este trabajo se presentan los resultados de un estudio sobre la demanda

llevado a cabo para identificar el perfil del turista que visita los destinos de turismo rural

de la región. El trabajo de campo se ha desarrollado en los meses de marzo-abril y

noviembre-diciembre de 2011, con la obtención de 452 cuestionarios realizados a

turistas rurales y encaminados a delinear su perfil, sus principales motivaciones,

actitudes y expectativas. Los resultados apuntan a la identificación de un segmento de

consumidores bastante variado, caracterizado por turistas expertos, atraídos por el

patrimonio natural y cultural de la región y por su gastronomía.

Due to its natural heritage and biodiversity, during the last decades, Extremadura has

become an important destination for rural tourism.

Nowadays, the profound changes that are taking place in tourism demand, increasingly

informed and sophisticated, require the development of a new tourist supply system,

consistent with the new needs of the modern tourist class. The latter wants to experience

places and local lifestyle. In order to develop a tourist supply system with these

characteristics, it is necessary to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the target of

consumer to which the Extremadura’s tourist proposal is addresses. This paper shows

the results of a study of tourist demand carried out to identify the profile of tourists

visiting the rural tourism destinations of the region. The field work was developed in the

months of March-April and November-December 2011, obtaining 452 questionnaires to

rural tourists, aiming to delineate their profile, their main motivations, attitudes and

expectations. The results point out a very diverse consumer segment, featuring experts

tourists, attracted by the natural and cultural heritage of the region and its gastronomy.
