Más bien se trata de un cuerpo científico que ha experimentado cambios. De una parte, pueden distinguirse en la actualidad dos grandes corrientes: el lamarckismo y el darwinismo. Por otra, el segundo sobre todo ha cambiado desde Darwin hasta hoy. Este trabajo analiza el desarrollo de estas dos grandes líneas teóricas desde el siglo XIX hasta la actualidad, y hace hincapié en la importancia de las mismas para el estudio del animal humano, objeto-sujeto tanto de la Historia como de la Arqueología.
