The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are potentially beneficial tools for the development, inclusion and participation of groups traditionally excluded from diverse cultural areas, including education. People with disabilities, who have historically had to face all kinds of barriers to participate equally in society, find in the technologies a new means to overcome many of these obstacles. There is a widespread discourse extolling the benefits of technologies for students with disabilities. However, and despite initially ICT can contribute to the educational process of these students with many improvements, we often take for granted some claims that link ICT and disability in the educational discourse. This paper studies the differences between students of Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), with and without disabilities, in the use of technology in their academic life, making a comparative analysis between these two groups in their learning processes. Data allow us to identify common and distintive aspects to determine if, as is often assumed, disability is a differentiating factor in the perception and use of technology as an educational element. |
