El motivo de la muerte aparente en la novela griega antigua (I)

Abstract

En otros estudios previos el autor ha analizado el motivo de la muerte aparente desde la perspectiva de la literatura comparada, así como en sus realizaciones en el teatro ático y en especial en la tragedia y sus posibles antecedentes épicos. Aquí se estudia el mismo motivo a lo largo de la historia de la novela griega antigua y en relación en muchos casos con el tema del engaño. Y se destaca cómo su tratamiento literario es un perfecto modelo de las cualidades narrativas que distinguen no sólo a los sucesivos autores sino las bien delimitadas etapas del género. En esta primera entrega se comentan “Quéreas y Calírroe” de Caritón y los textos fragmentarios actualmente conocidos.

In previous papers the author has analysed the motif of the apparent death both from the point of view of comparative literature and as put into practice in the theatrical Attic genres, specially in tragedy and in its possible epic precedents. Here the same motif is examined throughout the history of the ancient Greek novel and often in some relationship with the deceit theme. And its literary treatment is underlined as a perfect example of the distinctive narrative qualities not only of the successive authors but also of the well-defined phases of the genre. Chariton’s “Chaereas and Challirhoe” and the fragmentary texts so far uncovered are commented in this first part.
