La presente tesis busca avanzar en el campo de la eficiencia energética en el diseño arquitectónico y urbano. Los intercambios radiantes entre elementos que componen este diseño dependen de un modo inequívoco, como hemos visto, de parámetros puramente geométricos y formales, relacionados con superficies y volúmenes, que son: Su forma y su posición relativa en el espacio. La aproximación a estos parámetros geométricos de diseño puede hacerse mediante dos procedimientos fundamentales que son: - La teoría de factores de forma y factores de configuración. - La ley de proyección del ángulo sólido. Ambos conducen al mismo punto final: el cálculo del intercambio radiante de formas asociadas al diseño arquitectónico y urbano; su objetivo principal es conseguir un diseño energéticamente eficiente basado en el control formal de todos sus elementos. Nos enfrentamos a un problema formal que debe tener en cuenta las tres dimensiones en el espacio. Las dificultades surgidas en muchos procesos de integración para hallar los factores de forma y de configuración, así como en la aplicación de la ley de proyección del ángulo sólido han representado un obstáculo al avance de la ciencia en este campo. La presente tesis, titulada Diseño científico ambiental: Simulación energética de la arquitectura del espacio urbano tiene como objetivo, precisamente, avanzar en aquellos puntos donde la simulación energética ha encontrado mayores escollos para su avance. El catálogo de formas disponibles en arquitectura y urbanismo es muy variado. Investigaciones anteriores han dilucidado las expresiones que regulan dicho intercambio entre formas conocidas.
