With the help of the academic Dictionary (1984) and the inverse dictionaries of Spanish, an attempt is made in this work to assess the functional utility of Nuevas normas de prosodia y ortografía of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language (1959, 1969 and 1974) referring to the use of the small letters, in order to check how many words and exceptions are held in each rule. Those cases in which one phoneme can be represented by more than one grapheme are discussed, as well as those in which one grapheme stands for more than one phoneme. Along with the data obtained, the usefulness or uselessness of the rules is assessed so that in the teaching of the Spanish Language a more conscius handling of them is carried out at any level of the ortography teaching. |
