Aim: Evaluate if short dental implants in the atrophic posterior maxilla are as effective as long implants with sinus lift with osteotomes. Material and methods: The methodology followed in this work has been two literature reviews made via the Pudmed electronic database and throughout different manuscripts and dissertations. In order to limit the timeline of the bibliography and its selection, this paper is focused on the last ten years, and it has used the sinus elevation AND short dental implant research strategy. Results: Our review is centered on eleven chosen articles. Conclusions: standard length implants with sinus lift with osteotomes are a good alternative to the treatment of the atrophic posterior maxilla. Nonetheless, this treatment needs more time, investment and costs, and knowledge from the surgeon. However, the use of short dental implants is a promising and feasible option to substitute the positioning of standard-length implants with sinus lift with osteotomes. But, as the other treatment, it also requires more investigation in the long term. |
