The present Final DegreeThesis (TFG) focuses on establishing a methodology for the estimation and monitoring of the Carbon Footprint of La Cartuja Island, framed within the eCity Sevilla project. This project aims to transform the Cartuja Science and Technology Park (PCT Cartuja) into a model of sustainability, aligned with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to climate action and sustainable cities. To address this objective, a thorough measurement and analysis of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the park's activities have been carried out. Data sources were collected, and the results and limitations were analysed. The study is structured into three main scopes of emissions: direct emissions (Scope 1), indirect emissions from electricity (Scope 2), and other indirect emissions (Scope 3), which mainly include transportation. The applied methodology follows the guidelines of the UNE-ISO 14064-1:2006 standard, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and transparency in the evaluation of emissions. In 2022, it was concluded that the park's total emissions amounted to nearly 39,500 tons of CO2 equivalent. The TFG is structured clearly to facilitate the reader's understanding. Firstly, similar initiatives and projects carried out in other parts of the world, as well as the methodologies applied, were analysed. The Cartuja Science and Technology Park is presented, providing the necessary context regarding its relevance and characteristics. Next, the methodology used for the evaluation of emissions is described, followed by a detailed analysis of the information sources. Subsequently, the application of the methodology is explained, and the results obtained are presented. Finally, conclusions and recommendations based on the analysis are offered. The eCity Sevilla project represents a unique opportunity to position the city as a leader in sustainability and digitalization, and its success depends on the collaboration of all stakeholders, including administrations, companies, entities, and workers. Through this study, the foundations are laid for achieving carbon neutrality and making La Cartuja Island a global benchmark for smart eco-cities. The research concludes that, with the right strategies and a comprehensive approach, it is possible to transform PCT Cartuja into a model of sustainability, providing a replicable example for other cities and regions. |
