Introduction: Vital pulp therapy for permanent teeth remains one of the most controversial areas in dentistry. Because a vital and functional pulp is capable of initiating various defense mechanisms to protect itself from bacterial invasion, it is beneficial to preserve the vitality of an exposed pulp rather than replace it with a filler material. Aim: The objectives of this study were to determine through surveys, knowledge about vital pulp therapy treatment techniques in permanent dentition and its use in daily practice, materials indicated in this treatment modality and different classifications of pulpitis that have graduated dentists. in Spain 10 years ago or less and dentistry students from the University of Seville. Another objetctive was also to know the instruction offered during the degree on this minimally invasive technique. Material and methods: In this descriptive observational cross-sectional study, 71 dentists were asked to respond to a survey divided into three parts, previously validated among other published investigations, about the education received about vital pulp therapy in the permanent dentition and its use in the clinic. Data were analyzed through the use of descriptive statistics. Results: 71 dentists and dental students participated in the survey. 64.8% had graduated and practiced dentistry, while 35.2% were studying for the degree. Of all those surveyed, 91.%5 said they had received didactic content on VPT in the permanent dentition, but the majority received theoretical content (83.1%). Almost half of the participants continued to use the American Association of Endodontics pulpitis classification, and the other half the Wolters et al. (2017). Only 26.1% of the dentists performed POS techniques in the clinic, and the majority selected Biodentine as the material of choice. Conclusions: Generally, it is concluded that educating about TPV in the permanent dentition is present in the education of dentists, even though there should be variations in the content and in the teaching of the different techniques. In addition, the importance of using updated pulp inflammation classifications and the use of new biomaterials that improve the results of these treatments are highlighted. |
