The conflict between South Korea and North Korea in the mid-20th century was one of the most important historical events of the Cold War, a period that followed the Second World War and had a decisive influence on politics, economy, culture... of the entire world, and of course, of the media. The use of “propaganda”, already a very important tool for the Nazis, extended for decades, making the media participants in the conflict between both blocs, capitalism and communism. However, for various circumstances that will be detailed, the Korean War did not have a great media impact. Colombia, due to its internal problems, especially “La Violencia”, along with external economic and political interests, became actively involved in the Korean War, and its media participated in it, especially through “El Espectador” or “El Tiempo”, which published chronicles and news of the war, which served not only to report on it but also to create currents of opinion directed, on the one hand, by American interests, and on the other, by those of the Colombian government. |
