The term "empty Spain" has become frequent in mass media, an it is a concept that shows the situation that the rural world and small cities are suffering due to globalisation. These cities often face depopulation, ageing of their inhabitants and destruction of their cultural heritage because they do not have enough regulatory mechanisms for its preservation and enhancement. Dealing with this situation, these cities are building and working on their cultural identity by investing in their cultural heritage - both tangible and intangible - as a resource for social and economic development that allows them to survive. This effort is sometimes rewarded with international recognition such as inclusion in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, an example of which are the tamboradas, dry stone construction and the patios of Cordoba, among others. In order to better understand this cultural identity inherent to intangible heritage, we will study those elements that link it to the city, the landscape and the territory from the disciplines of architecture and urban planning, working to recognise the relationships between space, matter and ritual so as to establish the appropriate measures to protect, conserve, revitalise and promote intangible heritage from the tangible, understanding it from its relationship with the urban landscape and territory. |
