Tourism competitiveness is a highly common issue in the current economy, as tourist destinations face the challenge of attracting more visitors in an increasingly exploited market. However, the fact that the tourism sector is extremely vulnerable to the economic, social and political situation cannot go unnoticed. In this sense, for example, it is worth mentioning the strong negative impact generated by the crisis derived from the recent COVID-19 pandemic, on tourism activity and on the economy in general. By considering this context, in this Master's Thesis, two key scenarios are analyzed before and after this health crisis; that is, the years 2019 and 2021, with the objective of building a synthetic index that allows evaluating, based on multiple criteria, the competitiveness of ten relevant urban tourist destinations in Spain. For this, the discrete multi-criteria methodology based on the PROMETHEE-GAIA technique is used, which permits establishing an order between cities for each scenario (pre- and post-pandemic) in accordance with more than a dozen pillars that bring together more than one thirty variables or criteria related to the competitiveness of touristic territories. The resulting classification makes it possible to deepen the dimensions that have determined the behavior of the cities considered to adapt to the changing conditions derived from the pandemic. |
