Barrios vulnerables y subsidio por desempleo: el barrio de Los Pajaritos de Sevilla como caso de estudio

Abstract

El barrio de Los Pajaritos es un lugar donde la elevada tasa de paro, el bajo nivel educativo, las deficiencias en las viviendas y una de las rentas medias más bajas de toda España y de Europa condicionan la realidad social de sus vecinos. Por ello, los subsidios por desempleo tienen una gran importancia en la economía de las familias. En este trabajo, se analiza el contexto socioeconómico del barrio sevillano de Los Pajaritos y la importancia que tienen los subsidios por desempleo en la economía familiar de sus habitantes a través de una doble aproximación. Por un lado, se recopilan y analizan de forma descriptiva datos secundarios obtenidos del Instituto Nacional de Estadística, del Servicio Andaluz de Empleo y del Ayuntamiento de Sevilla. Por otro lado, se analizan las percepciones de los beneficiarios de los subsidios por desempleo a través entrevistas cualitativas semiestructuradas, realizadas a siete personas beneficiarias de este tipo de prestaciones residentes en el barrio. El análisis del contexto socioeconómico muestra un barrio vulnerable que lidera los peores datos en cada uno de los indicadores que hemos trabajado tanto a nivel nacional y autonómico, como local -dentro de la propia ciudad de Sevilla-. Por otro lado, la realización de las entrevistas cualitativas ha permitido entender mejor la situación del barrio desde el punto de vista de sus vecinos, mostrando una percepción pesimista generalizada sobre el propio barrio y sobre la situación personal de las personas que lo habitan.

Los Pajaritos neighborhood is a place where the high unemployment rate, the low educational level, the deficiencies in housing and one of the lowest average incomes in Spain and Europe condition the social reality of its neighbors. Therefore, unemployment benefits are of great importance in the economy of families. In this paper, the socioeconomic context of the Sevillian neighborhood of Los Pajaritos and the importance of unemployment benefits in the family economy of its inhabitants is analyzed through a double approach. On the one hand, secondary data obtained from the National Institute of Statistics, the Andalusian Employment Service and the Seville City Council are collected and analyzed in a descriptive way. On the other hand, the perceptions of the beneficiaries of unemployment benefits are analyzed through semi structured qualitative interviews, carried out with seven beneficiaries of this type of benefits residing in the neighborhood. The analysis of the socioeconomic context shows a disadvantaged neighborhood that leads the worst data in each of the indicators that we have worked on both nationally and regionally, as well as locally -within the city of Seville itself-. On the other hand, the realization of qualitative interviews has allowed to better understand the situation of the neighborhood from the point of view of its neighbors, showing a generalized pessimistic perception about the neighborhood itself and about the personal situation of the people who inhabit it.
