De la casa patio a la habitación exterior. Evolución del manifiesto rudofskyano

Abstract

Tomando como referencia las formas y funciones de la arquitectura ancestral, ya sean las construcciones populares que luego recogerá en su obra Arquitectura sin arquitectos, o la arquitectura doméstica griega y romana, la «casa con patio» sería el modelo tipológico sobre el que el arquitecto vienés Bernard Rudofsky arrancaría su praxis con su Casa para Berta» en Procida, un primer acercamiento al concepto del buen habitar tan recurrente en su obra. Tras ahondar en las formas de vida tradicionales de todos los sitios, y todos los tiempos, habitar el mediterráneo, Oriente y finalmente las Américas, su propuesta para una vivienda ideal va a desenvolverse con fundamento en la idea de habitar el exterior, dando lugar a lo que tras numerosas experimentaciones llamaría "The Conditioned Outdoor Room", una «estancia» exterior cuyo techo es el cielo abierto, con el fin de ofrecer al individuo la posibilidad de experimentar una vida libre en la intimidad del hogar, o en ocasiones, acogido por las calles que transita.

Taking reference in the forms and functions of ancestral architecture, whether it be the vernacular constructions that he would later collect in Architecture without architects, or Greek and Roman domestic architecture, the "patio house", or "house with a courtyard", would be the typological model through which the Viennese architect Bernard Rudofsky would initiate his architectural praxis. His design for a house in Procida (House for Berta Doctor) was his first approach to the idea of a house for pleasurable living. After delving into the traditional ways of life of all places, and all times, dwelling the Mediterranean, the East and finally, America, his proposal for an ideal dwelling will evolve based on the idea of living the outdoors, a concept which would lead him to what we called "The Conditioned Outdoor Room", a room (whose roof is the open sky) where the individual has the possibility of experiencing a free life in the privacy of the dwelling, or even in the streets that conform the great outdoors.
