Abstract | El surgimiento y expansión de internet ha modificado en las últimas décadas un sistema mediático hasta entonces dominado por los medios de comunicación de masas tradicionales —prensa, radio y televisión— (McCurdy, 2011). ... El surgimiento y expansión de internet ha modificado en las últimas décadas un sistema mediático hasta entonces dominado por los medios de comunicación de masas tradicionales —prensa, radio y televisión— (McCurdy, 2011). La irrupción de estas tecnologías que conviven con los medios tradicionales ha supuesto la configuración de un nuevo ecosistema mediático (Treré y Mattoni, 2016). Dada la moldeabilidad de los nuevos medios (Lovink, 2003), adaptables a múltiples usos y configuraciones, o los procesos de remediación (Bolter y Grusin, 2000)con los medios preexistentes, lo que se produce es un creciente proceso de convergencia (Cardoso, 2008) en el que todos los medios —incluida prensa, radio y televisión— se digitalizan y a su vez conviven con medios nativos digitales (Prensky, 2001) (webs, blogs, redes sociales, mensajería instantánea, etc.). En el ámbito de la sociedad civil y los movimientos sociales, la digitalización y la expansión de internet ha abierto nuevas posibilidades, aprovechando algunas de las propiedades intrínsecas de la red, como la digitalización, la hipertextualidad, la reticularidad, la interactividad, la multimedialidad, el desenclave temporal o la deslocalización (Scolari, 2008; Lévy, 2007; Manovich, 2005; Candón-Mena, 2010). Aunque vistas de forma aislada las características de los nuevos medios no son especialmente nuevas en la mayoría de los casos —el teléfono ya era interactivo, por ejemplo—, su combinación dentro de un mismo soporte tecnológico supone un cambio fundamental y además introduce posibilidades realmente inéditas, como la comunicación de muchos a muchos o «autocomunicación de masas» (Castells, 2009), que justificaría por sí misma que podamos hablar de una verdadera revolución de las comunicaciones. |
