Magical girls or mahō shōjo represent a very popular and cherished subgenre among fans of manga and anime of all ages and genres thanks to its storylines, which feature young girls who must use its newly earned magical powers in order to protect their friends and family. The main characters’ families are often overlooked, though they are essential for their development on a personal level and their ways of facing challenges. The shōjo girls, who must become the feminine ideal when they grow, see themselves inevitably influenced by the behaviors and personalities of those they live together with. While the families of the first works of this genre were characterized by patriarchalism, modern series’ families have been showing some ways of transgressing this traditional model. The arrival of Magical Girl Site meant a window to look through ‘’magical’’ households stricken with violence, abuse, despair, and death. This paper aims to analyze these elements and how they affect those girls. |
