términos Mesh: “Pharmacological treatment endodontics”, “endodontics analgesia”,
“analgesia therapy endodontics”, “prescription analgesic endodontics”, “analgesics
endodontics”.
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: During endodontic therapy, pain is one of the most important reasons for
consultation faced by the dentist. In dental practice, pharmacological treatment with
analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve postendodontic pain is frequent.
However, there is a gap in the endodontic literature about how the diagnosis, procedure,
and level of pain perceived influence the choice of analgesics. Therefore, the objective of
this paper is to review the state of the scientific knowledge on the prescription of
analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs in endodontics.
Method: A bibliographic review was carried out and the scientific material was obtained
from the PubMed, MEDLINE and Scopus databases, offered by the web portal of the
Health Centers Library of the University of Seville using the following terms Mesh:
"Pharmacological treatment endodontics", "endodontics analgesia", "analgesia therapy
endodontics", "prescription analgesic endodontics", "analgesics endodontics". A total of
10 articles, published from July 2014 to February 2021, were selected from the localized
articles.
Results and conclusions: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the first choice drugs
for the management of endodontic pain, Diclofenac K50mg and Ibuprofen 600mg are the
most frequent. Opioids are prescribed for their part in cases of severe pain, therefore the
common factor of choice of analgesics is the level of pain. The administration of
preoperative analgesics has been shown to reduce the incidence of postoperative pain.
There are no statistically significant differences in pain reduction between the
administration of Ibuprofen alone and the combination of Ibuprofen-Paracetamol.
However, there is a difference between the administration of Paracetamol only and the
combination of Ibuprofen-Paracetamol, showing this combination a greater reduction of
