Abstract | El cáncer es una de las enfermedades con mayor prevalencia y mortalidad a nivel global,
por tanto, la búsqueda de un tratamiento farmacológico efectivo es primordial. Sin
embargo, las terapias convencionales presentan ... El cáncer es una de las enfermedades con mayor prevalencia y mortalidad a nivel global, por tanto, la búsqueda de un tratamiento farmacológico efectivo es primordial. Sin embargo, las terapias convencionales presentan un margen beneficio/riesgo estrecho debido a la escasa especificidad de los fármacos antineoplásicos, lo que conduce a una gran diversidad de efectos no deseados que pueden comprometer la salud del paciente. Este hecho, en los últimos años, ha desembocado en la continua investigación de nuevos medicamentos que posean mejores perfiles de especificidad en comparación a los ya existentes. La nanotecnología adquiere gran relevancia en este punto, mediante el estudio de nanotransportadores liberadores de fármacos sensibles a estímulos externos como la luz mediante la utilización del espectro visible, ultravioleta e infrarrojo cercano que originan cambios estructurales en la molécula terapéutica; ultrasonidos que gracias al fenómeno de sonoporación permiten la correcta inclusión del fármaco en las células; variaciones de temperatura que influyen en el comportamiento y propiedades de los nanosistemas; efecto de campos magnéticos que alteran el movimiento de las nanopartículas generando energía en forma de calor que permite la liberación de la carga terapéutica. Las principales características de estas nanopartículas, que les confieren una alta idoneidad para tratar diferentes tipos de cáncer, son su reducido tamaño y su versatilidad tanto física como química. Esto les facilitan alcanzar, de manera selectiva, tejidos tumorales y la posibilidad de constituir sistemas “on/off”, programados para liberar su contenido terapéutico en presencia de un estímulo exógeno y bloquear su expulsión en ausencia del mismo, reduciendo así de manera significativa los efectos secundarios asociados al tratamiento. Se debe destacar que las nanopartículas sensibles a estímulos exógenos constituyen un tema muy actual, por consiguiente, su predominancia en el mercado todavía es realmente baja, siendo en su totalidad medicamentos sometidos a estudios clínicos. |
