Artículo Medical teleconsultation from the patient’s perspective. A demographic segmentation(Springer, 2025) Arenas Gaitán, Jorge; Ramírez Correa, Patricio E.; Ledesma Chaves, Pablo; Callarisa Fiol, Luis J.; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y Marketing; Junta de AndalucíaMedical teleconsultation is a tool that is here to stay among the services offered by health systems. Therefore, it is important to understand the process of adopting this technology. However, most studies have endorsed the point of view of health professionals. Our research adopts the patient’s point of view with a sample of 1500 patients who have used teleconsultation in Spain between May and November 2022, therefore, in a post-COVID-19 scenario. We started from a technology accept- ance model, UTAUT, and applied a novel segmentation technique: Pathmox. As a result, we have obtained six segments of patients using teleconsultation with differentiated technology acceptance processes, and we also propose strategies adapted to each of them.Artículo The adoption of innovative urban mobility solutions from the service-dominant logic(Emerald, 2024) Medina Molina, Cayetano; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Pérez Macías, Noemí; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingAbstract Purpose Urban centers, with their dense populations and evolving mobility patterns, are pivotal in addressing global sustainability challenges. This study focuses on identifying the key elements driving the adoption of sustainable urban mobility innovations, with a renewed emphasis on cycling as a core component. Design/methodology/approach Employing the Service Dominant Logic framework, this research examines how various conditions associated with the cycling ecosystem influence the adoption or negation of bicycles as a sustainable mode of urban transportation. The study conducts a comprehensive analysis across 60 cities to unravel these dynamics. Findings The investigation reveals that five distinct combinations of conditions facilitate the adoption of bicycles, while two specific combinations lead to its negation. Importantly, the study uncovers the presence of a “lock-in” mechanism, a critical factor in hindering bicycle adoption in urban settings. Originality/value This research contributes significantly to the field of sustainable urban mobility by integrating Service-Dominant Logic with empirical findings from a diverse set of global cities. It provides valuable insights into the complex interplay of factors influencing cycling adoption, offering a nuanced understanding of the barriers and drivers in this domain. The identification of a “lock-in” mechanism as a key impediment to cycling adoption adds a novel dimension to existing literature, presenting actionable pathways for policymakers and urban planners to foster more sustainable and bike-friendly urban environments.Artículo Social Capital in E-services Adoption(Wiley, 2016-12) Rey Moreno, Manuel; Medina Molina, Cayetano; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingSeveral studies acknowledge social network use's effect on university students’ learning process and that effect's moderating role in e-learning platform adoption. In line with Social Capital Theory, this study analyzes the differences in e-learning platform adoption between users of a generic social network, linked to bridging social capital, and users of a study-specific network, connected to the development of bonding social capital. The results show that a studies-linked social network has a more significant moderating effect on the relation between some antecedents of intention to use and effective use of e-learning platforms. Thus, this study advocates for the development and use of studies-linked social networks as a factor favoring the adoption of e-learning platforms.Artículo Relational governance mechanisms in export activities: Their determinants and consequences(Elsevier, 2016-11) Navarro García, Antonio; Sánchez Franco, Manuel Jesús; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingTaking the relational paradigm, the channel theory and the contingency approach as an orientation, this study's aim is to analyze the determinants and the consequences of the relational governance mechanisms between exporters and their foreign distributors. Specifically, this work explicitly validates the interrelationships between the exporter's dependence on its foreign distributor, the exporter's international capabilities, the foreign market environment, relational norms and export performance. The results show that relational norms have a positive impact on an exporter's result and that the greater an exporter's dependence on its distributors, on its international competences and on the volatility of the foreign markets, the more the exporter needs to maintain a relation with its foreign distributors based on information exchange, flexibility and cooperation. The data scrutiny uses structural equation modeling (SEM) through PLS as the statistical instrument. The sample comprises 212 Spanish exporting firms.Artículo Validation Of An Instrument For Measuring Intrapreneurial Intentions In University Students(Springer, 2025) Baena Luna, Pedro; Maza-Ávila, Francisco J.; Sánchez Torné, Isadora; Pérez Suárez, Macarena; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y Marketing; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Economía Aplicada IIIThis study aims to design and validate an instrument to evaluate the Intrapreneurial Intentions of university students. For this purpose, the direct and positive influence that Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation exerts on the Attitude Toward Intrapreneurship and, in turn, on the Intrapreneurial Intentions of these students is analyzed. The instrument's validity and the proposed conceptual model have been studied through the multivariate method of partial least squares structural equations (PLS-SEM) in 469 university students. The results demonstrate the validity of the structural model, thus, confirming the validity of the proposed instrument because of the causal effect found between the Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation (Risk-Taking, Innovativeness, and Proactiveness) on the Attitude Toward Intrapreneurship variable and the latter's direct and positive impact on the Intrapreneurial Intentions. The most relevant implications of this study are that the higher the level of Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation in university students, the greater the possibility they will develop an Attitude Toward Intrapreneurship and, hence, the intentions to carry out intrapreneurial actions. Artículo Previous beliefs and continuance intention(Springer, 2013) Medina Molina, Cayetano; Rufín Moreno, Ramón; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingThis work analyses the role of previous beliefs and attitudes on the intention to continue using online platforms. Although the literature has ignored the role of those variables in determining the continuance usage, this work makes use of the mediated relationships to verify its relevance. The conclusion is that, although previous attitudes do not have an impact on the continuance usage, the previous beliefs about the effort expectation, the perceived usefulness and trust do have an impact on the continuance intention to use an e-learning platform.Artículo Participation in crowdfunding among users of collaborative platforms: the role of innovativeness and social capital(Springer, 2019) Medina Molina, Cayetano; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Felício, José Augusto; Romano Paguillo, Inmaculada; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingThis work aims to elucidate the profile of participants in crowdfunding initiatives among users of collaborative platforms, considering them as agents with a high likelihood of taking part in these initiatives due to being users of digital services. This delimitation is performed by investigating the link between two intrinsic factors (innovativeness and social capital) and participation in crowdfunding initiatives. After the analysis of a sample generated by the Sociological Research Centre (CIS) of 422 users of collaborative platforms, it is found that the two intrinsic factors analyzed are linked with participation in crowdfunding initiatives. Moreover, differentiation in participation among users of collaborative platforms corresponds to the adoption of new services (higher for crowdfunding participants) and bridging social capital (lower for crowdfunding participants). The results obtained suggest incorporation of crowdfunding projects in vertical thematic financial platforms to take advantage of the effect of social capital and innovative capacity to increase participation and maintain diversity of effective financing formulas.Artículo Multichannel strategies in public services: levels of satisfaction and citizens’ preferences(Springer, 2018) Rey Moreno, Manuel; Medina Molina, Cayetano; Barrera Barrera, Ramón; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingThis work analyzes the behavior of two variables which can determine the use of different channels available to citizens to access public services (face-to-face, mail, phone and Internet). To do so, we will go deeply into the knowledge of the elements which determine the citizens’ satisfaction with face-to-face administration, as well as variables (gender and age) which can moderate the level of satisfaction with the different channels. We also analyze the citizen’s preference for the distribution channel, studying the moderator role which gender, age, marital status, religious beliefs and employment status can play in this. Use is made of data from the 2014 survey of CIS (Spain’s Center of Sociological Investigations) with a sample of 2479 people. The results indicate the presence of a moderator effect of gender and age on the face-to-face and phone channels but not on the rest. In the case of preference, all the variables analyzed moderate the level of preference for the different channels.Artículo Influence of lapse of time when measuring causes and effects in the consumption of online services(Elsevier, 2016-05) Rufín Moreno, Ramón; Medina Molina, Cayetano; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingThe intention to continue to use is a basic variable in the processes of consuming goods and services because such intention affects the organizations' wealth and surviving capacities. Commonly, researchers measure the continuance intention when the users are still receiving the service. Contrariwise, the main contribution of the present research is to measure the variables of consumer behavior as a sequence of events, thus providing a time gap that allows researchers to detect and measure the causes and the effects in the relationships among variables. The conclusions of the research are relevant both from an epistemological viewpoint and from the perspective of the marketing strategies suitable for services whose consuming processes are susceptible to time lapses.Artículo Global model of export performance: Moderator role of export department(Elsevier, 2016-05) Navarro García, Antonio; Arenas Gaitán, Jorge; Rondán Cataluña, Francisco Javier; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingTaking the resource-based view (RBV) and contingency approach as orientation, this study explicitly validates the interrelationships between human resources, competitive intensity, export commitment, strategic behavior, and export performance—strategic and operational. This study also confirms how these relationships fluctuate depending on the existence of an export department in international organizations. The data scrutiny uses structural equation modeling (SEM) through Partial Least Squares (PLS) as the statistical instrument. The sample comprises 196 Spanish exporting firms.Artículo Gender and E-Government Adoption in Spain(IGI Global, 2013-08) Rufín Moreno, Ramón; Medina Molina, Cayetano; Sánchez Figueroa, Juan Carlos; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingTechnology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) models, which include trust as a central factor, are currently standard tools for studying the process of new technology acceptance, but some further research is needed to gauge how different variables could influence this process. This is the case of gender factor, given that there is no general accord in the literature as to the role of this variable. Thus, the present research focuses on hypothetical gender-based differences that could affect the explanatory model for e-Government adoption by citizens. The results of the study show that the effects of gender on e-Government involvement are nearly none—probably because these technology-based activities are quite broadly implemented in Spain by now. This in turn implies both, that in Spain e-Government usage level is similar between genders and that the behavior explaining model is virtually the same, with no gender traits acting on it -apart from a slightly particular role played by compatibility in the female case.Artículo Facilitator and inhibitor factors: Adopting e-government in a dual model(Elsevier, 2018-07) Rey Moreno, Manuel; Felício, José Augusto; Medina Molina, Cayetano; Rufín Moreno, Ramón; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingThis paper explores why many citizens avoid adopting e-government channels despite the apparent benefits of doing so. Theoretical support is provided by the dual factor and status quo bias theories. The study is based on questionnaire responses from a sample of users and a sample of non-users of e-government channels, with 923 valid responses in total. The use of a complementary qualitative method enhanced the study. The results verify that habit is the main inhibitor of adoption of e-government channels, while it is also the most influential factor in terms of the continuance intentions of existing users. Performance expectancy has a positive effect on continuance intention in users and intention to use in non-users. However, effort expectancy and resistance are also important for existing users. Therefore, if the administration wishes to increase citizens' use of e-government, it needs to develop different strategies for users and non-users.Artículo Excellence management practices, knowledge management and key business results in large organisations and SMEs: A multi-group analysis(Elsevier, 2016-12) Calvo de Mora Schmidt, Arturo; Navarro García, Antonio; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Periáñez Cristóbal, Rafael; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingFollowing the total quality management (TQM) philosophy and the knowledge management (KM) approach, this contribution aims to study the influence of process methodology and partner management on KM, as well as the relationships between this variable and key business results. We also analyse the moderating role of organisational size in these previous relationships. The hypotheses proposed in our research model are tested on a sample of 225 Spanish companies with experience in TQM through evaluations using the EFQM Excellence Model. The partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) approach was used to test the research model. In order to assess the moderating effects of organisational size, we adopt a multi-group approach using two subsamples with large firms and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Our findings indicate that the use of process methodology and the involvement of partners are key factors for KM to have a significant impact on the key results of the business, both strategic and operational. Moreover, the organisational size is determinant when analysing the effect of process methodology and partner management on KM. In this sense, process methodology has a greater effect on KM in the SMEs. On the contrary, the relationship between partner management and KM is more intense in large firms. Finally, it is noted that KM can be effective and can improve the key business results independently of the size of the organisation.Artículo Dual models and technological platforms for efficient management of water consumption(Elsevier, 2020) Rey Moreno, Manuel; Medina Molina, Cayetano; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingThe social and environmental challenges facing the planet require changes in consumption patterns. It is common in the literature to propose growth models of growth and persuasive technology to respond to the scarcity of resources from an efficient management of demand. In this situation, the paper analyzes the facilitator and inhibitor factors (dual models) which affect the intention to use and the effective use of a platform that monitors water consumption. A focus group with 7 participants and a survey with a sample of 401 people brought to light that the intention to use efficient water consumption platforms is determined by performance expectancy, habit and facilitating conditions. In terms of inhibitors, resistance that affects the intention to use mediates the impact of sunk costs, inertia, perceived value, transition costs and uncertainty. The paper proposes some theoretical and managerial implications related to the use of efficient water consumption devices, as well as to the development of individual prosocial habits. This paper's main theoretical contribution is to raise awareness on the need to supplement traditional models from a dual perspective. Likewise, confirmation is sought on the applicability of efficient water consumption platforms in the means of monitoring consumer habits and behavioral patterns.Artículo Building trust and commitment to blogs(Taylor & Francis, 2013) Rufín, Ramón; Medina Molina, Cayetano; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingBuilding trust and commitment among a local politician's blog visitors may lead them to revisit the blog, to recommend it, or to give preference to the blog above all others. This study analyzes the role of different variables in building trust and commitment in online environments. In order to do so, it extends the behavior of the relationship quality model to the realm of political blogs, including two additional variables that can have an effect on building trust and commitment: attachment and distrust. After applying the model to a sample of political representatives operating at a local level in Spain, we were able to confirm the behavior of relationship quality, observing that satisfaction and commitment are both related directly to and mediated by trust. We were also able to confirm the significant impact of attachment on satisfaction and commitment, whereas we found no significant relationship between attachment and trust or between distrust and commitment. To further expand our knowledge of the variables included in the model, we also analyzed the relationships between trusting beliefs and the components of self-determination theory as antecedents of trust, distrust, and attachment.Artículo Antecedents and consequences of export entrepreneurship(Elsevier, 2015-07) Navarro García, Antonio; Calvo de Mora Schmidt, Arturo; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y Marketing; Junta de AndalucíaPurpose of the research: This paper has two main objectives. First objective involves defining export entrepreneur- ship as well as its dimensions of speed, degree, and scope. These objectives respond to current literature scarcity and fragmentation. Second, to employ empirical analysis to explore export entrepreneurship determinants and consequences through resource-based view and contingency approach. Methodology: A conceptual model with a multi-sectoral sample of 212 Spanish exporting companies is the basis for empirical analysis. Principal results: Results reveal that export entrepreneurship positively depends on internal factors such as man- agerial export commitment and resources regarding experience and structure. Likewise, export entrepreneur- ship depends on external environment contingency factors, such as competitive intensity and distance between export firm’s markets. This study also shows that export entrepreneurship positively affects export per- formance. Major conclusions: Managers can use above findings to systematize decisions and actions regarding their firms' export activity and improve export performance.Artículo Analysis of the moderating effect of front-of-pack labelling on the relation between brand attitude and purchasing intention(Elsevier, 2021-01) Medina Molina, Cayetano; Rey Moreno, Manuel; Periáñez Cristóbal, Rafael; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingNutritional labelling is an instrument to generate eating patterns. The establishment of means to support nutritional labelling is encouraged via a Front-of-Pack (FOP) labelling which facilitates consumers’ compre-hension and improves their choices. The aim of this work is to establish the impact that FOP labelling has on the relation between brand attitude and purchase intention, as well as to determine the effect of gender on these relations. Two surveys have been done. The first (129 responses) analyzes the relation between brand attitude and purchase intention without the presence of FOP labelling. The second (111 respondents) presents the FOP labelling. Multigroup analysis establishes the existence of differences in the relation between brand attitude and purchase intention due to the existence of FOP labelling in the case of the male sample. The effectiveness of FOP labelling is conditioned by the consumers’ brand attitudes and by the impact of gender.Artículo Eco-Innovation in the Food and Beverage Industry: Persistence and the Influence of Crises(MDPI, 2025-03-27) García Sánchez, Antonio; Rama, Ruth; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingThis study explores the role of persistence in eco-innovative (EI) activities in en- hancing firms’ resilience during crises, focusing on the Spanish food and beverage industry. It distinguishes between two types of eco-innovators: efficiency-focused eco-innovators, who aim to reduce material and energy usage, and environmental eco-innovators, who seek to minimize direct harm to the environment. Additionally, the analysis evaluates the impact of regulation and institutional interventions on fostering eco-innovation during economic downturns. Using panel data from Spanish food and beverage companies between 2004 and 2016, we adopt a longitudinal approach to study how long-term commitments to EI influence green technology adoption. We identify three distinct periods: 2004–2007 (boom), 2008–2013 (crisis), and 2014–2016 (recovery). Finally, the study analyses the most effective institutional interventions and corporate green strategies for fostering the green transition during challenging times. The analysis provides theoretical insights and tailored managerial and policy recommendationsArtículo New challenges for innovation policies in an uneven European innovation panorama: lessons from evaluation experiences(PAGEPress, 2025-01-16) Molero Zayas, José; García Sánchez, Antonio; Fernández-Zubieta, Ana; Universidad de Sevilla. Departamento de Administración de Empresas y MarketingThe article addresses the recent changes in science and inno- vation policy studies from an European perspective. Based on the monitoring and evaluation exercises of four different innovation policy exercises carried out in Spain over the last years, we reflect on the challenges of European innovation policy. The monitoring and evaluation exercises cover different administrative levels (na- tional, regional and European) and methodological approaches (impact evaluation and more qualitative-oriented) including: an impact-evaluation exercise of the Research and Development (R&D) public funding programme for firms granted by the main innovation agency in Spain (The Centre for the Development for Industrial Technology CDTI); two survey-based research on R&D from the workers and from the managerial perspective; and a monitoring exercise on the Smart Specialisation Exercises (S3) of three regions (Extremadura, Valencian Community and Catalonia) and the national S3 programme. We find that it is important to ad- dress the strengths and limitations of programmes and policies framed in previous innovation policies (innovation for growth and national systems of innovations), while improving coordination between innovation policies with other policy areas, layers (strate- gic, managerial and performance) and levels (national and re- gional). In addition, we signal the importance of broadening the understanding innovation to move towards a more transforma- tive-oriented policy paradigm. We indicate that a broad under- standing of innovation is especially important for less developed countries and regions to catch-up.
