The objective of this work has been to find out sports that are linked to lower back injuries and the factors that caused them. In order to figure out these factors, some publications related to this subject have been reviewed. In a theoretical framework, the description of the elements that cause a sports injury has been addressed in-depth, being risk factors, injuries mechanisms, preventive measures and types of classification the elements that already exist. This section finishes with the different lower back injuries most frequently suffered in sports. After searching bibliography of resources on this subject in different databases, some sports that provoke lumbar region injuries have been found. The highest prevalence rates are found among these sports: American football, soccer, gymnastics, ice hockey, baseball, ski, snowboard, basketball, weightlifting and athletics. This search has taken into account not only professional but also amateur athletes. It has been concluded that there are a lot of studies about not recommended movements for back health, but few of them focus on one or some sports in particular and, furthermore, most of these publications are only based on professional athletes. A proposal for future investigations would be the research of studies that quantify back injuries, as well as the causes that provoke them, in sports not only for professional but amateur athletes too. |
