Abstract | Hablamos de sostenibilidad. Si a día de hoy, cuatro de enero del 2007, introdujéramos en un buscador de Internet al azar la palabra sostenibilidad, éste nos proporcionaría entre uno y cuatro millones y medio de entradas ... Hablamos de sostenibilidad. Si a día de hoy, cuatro de enero del 2007, introdujéramos en un buscador de Internet al azar la palabra sostenibilidad, éste nos proporcionaría entre uno y cuatro millones y medio de entradas sobre el término, sólo en castellano. No obstante, en cambio, si introducimos sostenible, obtendríamos entre cinco y doce millones y medio de entradas. Ante esto cabe la pregunta ¿Acaso no es lo mismo sostenible que sostenibilidad? Parece que no, debe existir una distinción cuando por cada entrada de sostenibilidad existen al menos cuatro o cinco de sostenible. Quizás se trate de una diferencia gramatical: mientras que sostenibilidad es un sustantivo, sostenible es un adjetivo. O una diferencia semántica: mientras que sostenibilidad define a un estado, sostenible conjura una cualidad añadida a algo. En cualquier caso parece que el adjetivo tiene más éxito que el sustantivo, sobre todo cuando sostenibilidad se refiere a un estado que aún no ha sucedido, sigue siendo una utopía, y sostenible es una cualidad que puede detentar otros sustantivos, como paz, relación o arquitectura. Sin embargo, ¿se podría hablar de sostenibilidad sostenible? Ciertamente no. Resulta redundante, sobre todo cuando por propia definición sostenibilidad se trata de un estado en el que sus componentes han acogido la cualidad que lo determina sostenible. He aquí la relación fundamental entre ambos términos, el adjetivo es primordial para la consecución del sustantivo. Esto es, hablamos acerca del término sostenible. Sostenible; que se puede sostener, que es viable en el tiempo. Sostenible por tanto se puede desentramar como certeza de que algo pueda perdurar. Se busca una situación sostenible como una garantía, definida en la confianza de que los elementos por los cuales nos ha sido posible el acto de crear dicha situación, puedan dar lugar a un estado de equilibrio conservable y perdurable. Esto es, llegados a un punto de evolución, mantenemos la esperanza en lo sostenible como garantía de que en algún momento podremos dejar de evolucionar en la seguridad de que seguiremos perdurando. |
