Final Master’s Project which analyses the territorial implantation of the convents of the Dominican Order in Andalusia. Thanks to the foundingof their first great houses after the reconquest of al-Andalus, the Dominicans began to weave a network of convents located at strategic points, in order to establish not only the Christian religion against Islam, but also with a control and power vocation. They will be taken as cases of study the Dominican foundations of the male and female branch. We will place ourselves in the chronological period that starts in 1236, the date of the first foundation in Córdoba, to 1535, several years after the conquest of the Kingdom of Granada and the discovery of America. In relation to this aspect, the final background of the Dominican hierarchical organization of the territory will emerge. Closely linked to it because it has been monopolized together with the Franciscans, will soon take control and dominate the main routes and urban centers, at land level, and even beyond international waters. Through a global analysis, which includes the contribution of relevant own planimetry, as well as different aspects related to its implantation. We will elaborate a discourse that will go from its own history, to address such transcendental and generic aspects as the influence of geography, demography, the economy or the infrastructure of Andalusia in the chronological framework, established to reveal the interests that made possible the creation of a network with more than 51 convents in the territory. |
