The paper of Prof. Philippe Martin is a review of the reforms introduced in the French social protection system up until 2015. It not only collects and lists the measures taken, but from a basic development of the origin of the system, it presents the main strategic lines of action, establishing core subjects of study. In particular, health care, the role of health insurance, the pension system and the role of unemployment as a factor with a clear impact on the social protection system, together with the impact that on the whole system has the existing funding model. Precisely when addressing key aspects of the reforms the previous situación is analyzed, together with the possible future challenges in each subject, leaving the loor open for a very interesting debate on the nature of the benefits, its financial linking and their relationship with employment levels... etc. Without forgetting that particularly this set of matters question the very meaning and survival of an economic model.
