We live in a connected community where digital information is exchanged around the world. The demand for capacity has developed exponentially over the years, so that representation of This advance has been led all the time by the Shannon limit. This estimation reflects a concrete situation between the offer and demand of channel capacity in communication networks, which leads us to ask ourselves: How much is left to reach this final limit? Nowadays, exists a wide range of research where important developments can be made, which is an attractive incentive for all companies interested in optical communications. In this way, the aim of this project is a development of the evolution of the optical communication systems, as well as the technologies that have supported these advances. At the same time, the objective is to investigate possible alternatives for non-linear systems that allow working over the Shannon limit.
