The aim of this study was to explore the interplay between sense of community, psychological empowerment and citizen participation, and their impact in terms of health. Complementarily, the engagement in associational life as well as health’s promotion activities was taken into account: the frequency of participation in a local association, the identification with that association as well as the participation in an initiative to promote health were evaluated. The sample consisted of 205 women between 17 and 89 years old, from the municipalities of Gerena and Castilblanco de los Arroyos (Seville). The main results of this work indicate that the three processes studied are strongly interrelated. Organizational sense of community is clearly associated to different indicators of participation. Finally, health outcomes were associated to demographic variables, such as age, educational level and occupational status.
