The aim of the present research is to analyze how the cognitive absorption experienced by students during the performance of a learning activity influence on their participation and learning performance. Thus, an activity based on the use of Pinterest was designed. Students should capture examples about marketing trends (social, viral and experiential) and published them in different boards of this social network. When students finished the activity, they should answer a survey. A total of 152 valid surveys were obtained. Data were analyzed using structural equation models. Cognitive absorption was tested considering it as a second order formative factor. Findings demonstrate that dimensions of curiosity, control and enjoyment significantly influence the development of cognitive absorption. Moreover, this absorption increases student participation and improves learning performance.
