This paper tries to explore the USA fiction format Mad Men, produced for AMC, from the point of view of its broadcasting, production, and content and consumption as well. It starts from the assumption that this is an innovative product in several ways. On one hand, it makes AMC’s schedule different from others basic cable channels. Thus, Mad Men is shown as a quality series, improving the brand image of the channel. Production cost, or audience results are some of the variables useful to describe a business model with low profitability levels. On the other hand, content analysis of this format let us discover its reflexive and critic role in describing American society. The revision of its history, the explanation of some of its present dynamics, and, especially, the particular reading related to gender relationships, and its contemporary femininity proposals let us know the latent message of the series.
