Abstract: Fifteen clay samples of interest for ceramic work are studied. They were taken from four different deposits, currently being worked, located near Campo de Gibraltar, in lands dating from the Tertiary period. The following tests have been run: Chemical analysis, cation exchange capacity, ponderal and differential thermal analysis, X-ray difraction analysis, mechanical analysis, moulding water, plasticity (Riecke), porosity, drying at 50ºC (Bourry diagrams), firing shrinkage, true and apparent density, and resistance to compression of samples fired at 900ºC. The conclusions reached indicate that the samples are composed, mainly, of mica (muscovite) and illite. They contain kaolinite, chlorite and quartz as secondary minerals, and traces of goetite, lepidocrocite, boehmite, mont-morillonite, vermicullite, and others. Se estudian 15 muestras de arcilla de interés cerámico procedentes de cuatro yacimientos en explotación situados en terrenos de origen terciario de la región del Campo de Gibraltar. Las técnicas empleadas han sido las siguientes: análisis químico, c...
