Objetive: To know the main periodontopathogens as well as their transmission routes. Materials and Methodology: An extense bibliographic review was carried out in databases PUBMED, SCOPUS and academic Google covering all the studies published since 1985 in English and Spanish in the human species. Results and Conclusions: The main periodontopathogens are Aa and Pg, which are transmitted from one person to another, and even though having other predisposing factors in addition to the pathogen is necessary to develop periodontal disease, people who cohabitate with another who suffers from this disease are considered as a risk group, in which the couples have the highest risk, then the children and with a minimum / null risk children under 5 years of age. This would justify the need to establish an early diagnosis of the disease, to take hygienic measures and to treat the relatives of these patients, with periodic reviews and specific prevention plans, thus avoiding contagion.
