Carrot amphorae y otras ánforas de origen sirio- Palestino procedentes de un contexto vespasianeo de segobriga (saelices, hispania citerior)

Abstract

La excavación arqueológica realizada en el pe - ríodo 2011-2013 en el anfiteatro de Segobriga documentó un vertido de nivelación al sur del edificio, con más de 90.000 fragmentos cerámicos datados a inicios del reinado de Ves - pasiano. Entre ellos, se recuperó un conjunto de 1.154 frag - mentos de ánforas de procedencia sirio-palestina: Carrot Amphorae , Kingsholm 117 y Majcherek I, que constituye, a día de hoy, uno de los mejores lotes de este tipo de envases en la península ibérica tanto por su cantidad como por su va - riedad tipológica. Por otro lado, su presencia en Segobriga pone de manifiesto la vinculación de la ciudad con los princi - pales circuitos comerciales mediterráneos a través del puerto de Carthago Nova y revela la llegada a la ciudad, a mediados del siglo I d.C., de productos exóticos procedentes de las cos - tas orientales.

The archaeological excavation carried out between 2011 and 2013 in the amphitheatre of Segobriga meant the finding of a deep levelling located at the south side of the building containing more than 90,000 ceramic fragments dat - ing at the beginning of the reign of Vespasian. The total of 1,154 sherds of Syrian-Palestinian amphorae recovered dur - ing the excavation, including Carrot Amphorae, Kingsholm 117 and Majcherek I, is, nowadays, one of the best sets of this type of containers found in the Iberian Peninsula due both to its quantity and to its typological variety. Their presence in Segobriga reveals the integration of the city in the main Med - iterranean trade routes through the port of Carthago Nova , re - vealing the arrival in the city during the mid-first century AD of exotic products coming from the Near East.
