Los valores en la enseñanza de la ingeniería

Abstract

El profesorado y el alumnado de la Escuela de ingenieros de Bilbao coinciden en definir la enseñanza de la ingeniería como una formación estrictamente “capacitadora”, en la que se omiten aquellos componentes formativos que no son puramente técnicos. La “formación téc - nica” y “la formación humana” son concebidas como dos realidades disociadas, lo que implica no distinguir e identificar los valores implícitos en el aprendizaje de determinados conoci - mientos, habilidades y capacidades técnicas. De ahí que se describa la enseñanza en la Escuela como exenta de valores. Sin embargo esta asepsia axiológica no es cierta. En dicha enseñanza predominan valores del tipo instrumental de cara a la eficacia y la rentabilidad, y, asimismo, a una concepción un tanto elitista y selectiva de la profesión, basada en el éxito y el prestigio profesional

The teaching staff and the student body of the Bilbao School of Engineering coincide in their definition of the teaching of engineering as a form of training which is strictly aimed at “enabling” and in which any components that are not purely technical are omitted. The “tech - nical training” and “human training” are seen to be two dissociated realities, which implies not distinguishing or identifying those values that are implicit in acquiring certain knowledge, and technical skills. Hence, teaching in the School is described as being devoid of values. However, this axiological asepsis is by no means true. In the teaching of engineering their is a predominance of values of an instrumental nature concerning effectiveness and viability and also at a somewhat elitist and selective concept of the profession based on professional success and prestige
