El Riego Tradicional en el Eriazo Norteño. La Expansión de la Herencia Hidráulica Agrícola al Norte Novohispano

Abstract

El riego es uno de los recursos importantes que encontramos como fuente de conocimiento de herencias culturales. La antropología y la etnografía nos indican que en los pueblos agrícolas que han conservado sistemas de riego por muchos años se encuentran datos e información de recursos técnicos, de sistemas agrícolas, de manejo de germoplasma, así como de tradiciones y culto a los ancestros. Los pueblos norteños desde San Esteban hasta los santafeños no son la excepción. Gracias al estudio del riego realizado en el centro de México ha quedado claro el proceso de expansión de la tecnología hidráulica al norte.

The small irrigation is an excellent resource to understand the knowledge of the cultural heritage. Social Anthropology and Rural Ethnography tell that agricultural people with acequias and small irrigation in the world have preserved for centuries irrigation systems, germoplasma, food production as well as religious traditions and cult for the ancestors. The irrigators of the Northen Mexico and Southwestern USA in the Chihuahuah Desert are part of that tradition. Important examples of that tradition are the local studies of people of San Esteban de la Nueva Tlaxcala, today Saltillo, and the Santa Fe along the riparian cultivators of Rio Grande. Those studies of small irrigation from the XVI century until today give light to the knowledge of the expansion of hydraulic technology, as well as of the history of the region.
