This paper develops some ideas about the place of tutors in post-degree courses in virtual environment. The discussion sets out the following topics: the specific configurations that tutorial practice in virtual surroundings acquires; the specificprevious or acquired skills for the tutor’s performance; the characteristics assumed by the control of virtual education and its incident in the tutorial practice, the position played by evaluative rules of academic interchange between tutor and student; the challenges face by tutors when work in conventional teaching to adapt its practice to the complex and unfinished space of the network. The conflicting framework in which the tutorial practices take place is analyzed related with the position that the tutor occupies, the knowledge required for the performance which must be on the base of his/her formation and the ideal profile for their functions socially demanded.
