Nuevas tecnologías y exclusión: hay vida más allá de internet

Abstract

Nuevas formas de pobreza y exclusión social constituyen la cara negativa de una sociedad que defiende valores como la libertad, convivencia, tolerancia e igualdad de oportunida- des. Las nuevas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación abren nuevas posibilida- des en la consecución de los mismos, pero a su vez pueden generar nuevas situaciones de exclusión derivadas del actual modelo de crecimiento económico que exige una gran flexi- bilidad de adaptación a una sociedad en permanente y vertiginoso cambio. Las personas y colectivos socialmente más desfavorecidos o aquellos otros que no dispongan de la forma- ción adecuada para ir integrando el uso de las nuevas tecnologías quedarán excluidas de los procesos de participación social. De todos dependerá, en parte, que los asumamos como «productos negativos» de la modernidad o que emprendamos actuaciones educativas que no se rijan solamente por parámetros económicos sino por parámetros de justicia social.

New forms of poverty and social exclusion constitute the negative face of a society that defends values like the freedom, coexistence, tolerance and equality of opportunities. The new technologies of the information and the communication open new possibilities in the attainment of such, but they can as well generate new situations of exclusion derived from the present model of economic growth that demands a great flexibility of adaptation to a permanent society in vertiginous change. The socially more underprivileged people and groups or those others that do not have the suitable formation to be integrating the use of the new technologies will be excluded from the processes of social participation. On all it will depend, partly, that we assume them like «negative products» of modernity or which we undertake educative performances that are not only governed by economic parameters but by parameters of social justice.
