Notas sobre una inscripción de Ninfeo en honor de Mitrídates Eupátor, rey del Ponto

Abstract

L'apparition du nom de Mithridate Eupator sous le titre de "Roi des dans l'inscription trouvée à Nymphéon présente un aspect desa propagande. Cependant, cela n'indique ni une organisation de type oriental dans son royaume ni négation de son caractèrehellénique, puisque d'autres monarques avaient adopté le titre de "Grand Roi" qui, au cours de cette période, semble son sensoriginel. La description que Poseidonios fait de Mithridate comme roi des ainsi que ses monnaies frappées en or, montreraientque les Grecs savaient que celui-ci se servait de ce titre.

The mention of Mithridates Eupator with the title "King of Kings" on the inscription discovered at Nymphaion reveals an aspect of his propaganda. This doesn't mean an oriental organization in his kingdom, nor a rejection of his hellenic character, since other hellenistic kings had used the title "Great King", wich seems to loose his former meaning in this period. The description of Mithridates as King of Kings by Poseidonius, and the minting of gold coins should indicate that the Greeks knew his use of thistitle
