Ein prokurator aus Carteia

Abstract

Una inscripción de Carteia enriquece nuestro conocimiento sobre las élites de esta ciudad y sobre la administración, tanto del puerto de Puteoli, como del aprovisionamiento de Roma. Por desgracia, una inscripción tan importante fue publicada de modo insuficiente y se incluyó en “Hispania Epigraphica” y en “Année Épigraphique” con lecturas y comentarios aun más equivocados. El caballero seguramente cumplió todos los grados de las “tres militiae” y concluyó éstas con el mando del “ala II Thracum”; éste fue el motivo por el que el dedicante honró al caballero, su antiguo comandante, en la ciudad natal de éste. Este caballero desempeñó un oficio procuratorio que conocemos también por otras tres inscripciones. La inscripción se fecha aproximadamente en época de Adriano o de Antonino Pío.

An inscription of Carteia enriches our knowledge of the aristocracy of that town and of the administration of the port of Puteoli as well as of the provision of Rome with food. Unfortunately, the important inscription was published in an inadequate manner and was entered in the Hispania Epigraphica and in the Année Épigraphique with a text and with commentaries which are even more erroneous. The knight certainly went through all the positions in the “tres militiae", which he finished as commander of the “ala II Thracum”; this gave the motivation for the dedicant to honour his former commander in his native place. This man held a procuratorial office, which we also know from three other inscriptions. The inscription belongs approximately in the reign of Hadrian or Antoninus Pius.
