Nuevos documentos sobre el comercio de los metales hispánicos en la época romana. Los lingotes de Chipiona (Cádiz)

Abstract

Se presentan cuatro lingotes de plomo y dieciseis lingotes de cobre de época romana hallados casualmente cerca de la desembocadura del Guadalquivir en 1992. Su estudio tipólogico y epigráfico, así como la comparación con otros lingotes de pecios excavados en las Baleares y en el estrecho de Bonifacio, permiten adscribir los lingotes al primer cuarto del siglo I d.C. Asímismo, permiten hipotetizar sobre la procedencia de los metales, la zona minera de Sierra Morena oriental para los lingotes de plomo y las minas de la Faja Pirítica Ibérica para los lingotes de cobre.

The paper presents four Roman lead ingots and sixteen copper ingots of the same period found occasionally underwater in front of the Guadalquivir mouth. The typology and the epigraphy, as well as the comparisons done with other ingots excavated in Roman shipwrecks in the Balearic Islands and the Straight of Bonifacio, allow to date the ingots in the first quatter of the first century AD. They allow as well to adscribe the ingots to two mining areas, the Eastern Sierra Morena (Linares-La Carolina) for the lead, and the Iberian Piritic Belt (Riotinto and others mines) for the copper.
