16,59 (a 30 °C).
dc.description.abstract | The development and survival of the inmature stages, and longevity and fecundity
of females of the sweetpotato whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) were studied in sweet
pepper {Capsicum annuum L.) at three temperatures: 20, 25 and 30 °C in laboratory.
The whitefly used in this work were a non-B biotype, characteristic of SE of Spain. The
mean development time, in days, from egg to adult was of 36.85 at 20 °C, of 19.78 and
19.90 at 25 °C (in two different assays) and of 19.63 at 30 °C. The survivorship from
egg to adult were of 22.1% at 20 °C, 83.5% and 82.8% at 25 °C (in two different assays)
and 38.3% at 30 °C. The mean longevity, in days, of the females were of 24.31 at 20 °C,
14.13 at 25 °C and 7.68 at 30 °C. The mean number of eggs laid per female were of
60.47 at 20 °C, 88.24 25 °C and 41.95 at 30 °C. The jackknife estimation of the life table
parameters rm (intrinsic rate of population increase) and Ro (net reproductive rate) were
0.062 and 22.68 (at 20 °C), 0.152 and 71.92 (at 25 °C) and 0.122 and 16.59 (at 30 °C)
respectively. The mean generation time (7) varied from 50.34 days at 20 °C to 23.02
days at 30 °C. In conclusion, the whitefly B. tabaci can develop properly on sweet
pepper in a wide range of temperatures, being 25 °C the most suitable one from the tested
temperatures. | es |
