The Manichean manipulation of the representation of Carthage and the Carthaginians in Italian films gave them characteristics more Oriental than African, including anachronistic Arab, Muslim, or Jewish elements. This article traces the creation and development of this negative vision of the Carthaginian in Italian Cinema, dealing with the double perspective of historical cinema on Antiquity, which not only portrays the past but also implicitly reflects the present.

En los tres casos, la enfermedad mental es la culpable de su proceder herético.; In this article we have studied the madness in John Chrysostom’s Commentary on Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist. We have focused on the author’s disapproval of the behaviour of the Jewish people, of those who deviate from the faith, and of those who feel over-attachment to material goods. In all three cases, mental illness is to blame for their heretical demeanour.

In this paper we study Bishop Pacian of Barcelona’s lost treatise Ceruulus, which was intended to combat the pagan New Year festivals in which people disguised themselves as animals. In this way, we devote the first section to analysing the historiographical debate that arose around the meaning of its title and the nature of the treatise; in the second, we examine the textual parallels that help us to better define the contents of Pacian’s work; and finally, we devote the third section to the interesting question of whether any part of this writing could have survived to the present day hidden in the lines of a later author.
